We find inspiration everywhere. There is often beauty in the most unexpected of places, and when we discover other people, organisations, cultures or mindsets that resonate with us, we want to learn more.
Whilst in conversation with an expert on audio design for well-being content, it was suggested to research the Hygge (hyoo · guh) mindset championed in Denmark. So we did — hygge is 'a concept... of creating Cozy and convivial atmospheres that promote well-being’. And here we learned, in our mission to help others improve their overall well-being, that we think the same way as the Danish. So much so, that we even share the same sentiment for the word 'cozy'.
Why are the Danish consistently ranked among the happiest people in the world year after year? It’s not the weather (we think!) From the conversations we have had, we believe one of the primary reasons is hygge — or as we like to call it, the art of being Cozy.
This concept found its way into Danish life as a response to the heavy, gloomy winters, not unlike those touted to be forthcoming in the wider Web3 space. In difficult times, we are challenged to succumb to our circumstances or find inner strength or a collective foundation for perspective, resistance and/or happiness. The Danish cultivate well-being themselves by embodying hygge, by finding ‘...practical [ways] of creating sanctuary in the middle of very real life’. It’s a meeting of equals who celebrate the small joys of life, savor the present moment, and discover rejuvenation in collective harmony.
The CEO of a Copenhagen think tank called The Happiness Research Institute describes hygge as ‘like a warm hug, but without the physical contact.’ In an increasingly digital and fast-paced world, we need ways to connect and share the feeling of coziness despite our differences. We love the Web3 community and its subcommunites. Though, as much as the degen culture has given us, we’re inspired to introduce a more calm, collected, and reflective mindset to render the space more welcoming and Cozy to navigate.
